摘要:Government assistance
accounts for only a small
share of household income
on a national basis (about 5 percent),
but it constitutes a large part of
income for many recipients. The
most economically vulnerable
households in the United States,
especially low-income single-parent
households, receive a substantial
share of their income from assistance
provided by Federal, State,
and local governments. In 1996, 58
percent of the income of low-income
single-parent households came from
government assistance programs.
The levels and distribution of
income vary across sociodemographic
groups, as does the extent of
household dependence on earnings
and government assistance.
