The mission of the Faculté des sciences de l'éducation of the University of Moncton fits into a vision of education based on personal development, social justice and peace. In order to make this vision a reality, the faculty adopted an underlying philosophy in its teacher training activities, a global approach that it calls the Pedagogy of Actualization. For a Pedagogy of Actualization to exist, it must be anchored in values of equity.
Basing their arguments on prior research done with educators, the authors demonstrate the positive influence of an approach that sensitizes people to equity in pedagogy, in both practice and representation. In this article, we first define the concepts of equity and equality and then look at how the concept of equity underlies each of the components of the Pedagogy of Actualization. In conclusion, we present an equity grid applied to this pedagogical approach, followed by a reflexive analysis guide based on the examination of ones own teaching practices.
