摘要：GENTRIFICATION IN BAIRRO ALTO: A SOCIO-SPATIAL RECOMPOSITION PROCESS ANALYSIS. The present-day phenomenon of gentrification must be contextualised in the profound economic changes which have been taking place in the urban spaces of capitalist western countries since the late 1960s. These changes cannot, however, be only understood and analysed as a result of speculating circuits of valuation/devaluation of the urban land and the estate goods existing there. The same happens with urban-architectonic policies of intervention, as well as with changes resulting from economic restructuring in the professional structure and social fabric of the city, highly skilled tertiary sector at its core. Choosing Bairro Alto as an illustrative case of this restructuring urban process in the city of Lisbon, I will analyse the most important changes in its demographic and socio-cultural structure, with the arrival of new dwellers since the beginning of the 1980s. The hypothesis is that the residential strategies’ reconfiguration of specific social sectors has been leading to the emergence of new appropriation and living models and, consequently, to the appearance of new estate products and new lodging formats in the neighbourhood. These assume the form of residential enclaves, which reinforce urban space fragmentation.
