摘要:Twenty one years ago on the 9th July 1984 the roof of the
South Transept of York Minster, one of the greatest
cathedrals in the world, was destroyed by fire. However,
the 16th century stained glass in the Rose Window high
in the South gable survived the fire albeit cracked into
40,000 pieces. The repair and conservation of this noted
window by the York Glaziers’ Trust under the direction
of the author of this article and former Secretary/Superintendent
of this Trust still creates interest worldwide
and is acknowledged to be the most difficult and challenging
conservation task in stained glass ever undertaken.
