摘要：The comparison between poetry and painting stands as one of the topics
more repeatedly dealt with by authors and researchers of all times, who very often
resort to the famous statement made by Horace in verse 361 of his Art of Poetry.
However, the inappropriate use of the expression has had the effect of bestowing upon
the Venusian author¡¯s dictum some meanings which in all likelihood the author hadn¡¯t
originally anticipated. In this article, we wish to assess the conceptual width of this
renowned comparison and point out the limitations we should impose upon it.
