标题:RESILIENCE OF COMMUNITY TO CLIMATE CHANGE THROUGH ADOPTION OF SLOPING AGRICULTURE LAND TECHNOLOGY AND ECO-FRIENDLY AGRICULTURE IN JUGEDI KHOLA WATERSHED, NEPAL
摘要:Eco-friendly agricultural practices are important for restoring degraded watersheds. These
techniques are useful in managing steep slopes and increasing crop productivity of the area. This study
was conducted to assess the resilience of community in adopting Sloping Agriculture Land Technology
(SALT) and eco-friendly practices in vegetable production, to cope with impacts of climate change in
Jugedi Khola watershed, Chitwan, Nepal. Personal interview, field observation, group discussion,
collection of individual cases was used to asses the impact of SALT and eco-friendly vegetable production
practices in empowerment of community, rehabilitation of degraded land and increasing income of farm
community. There increased the farmers¡¯ awareness on impacts of climate change, as well as the
techniques and tools of eco-friendly agriculture to cope with climate change impacts. Moreover, they
became able to conserve their valuable soil resources, increase productivity and ultimately gained more
livelihood security through the use of SALT and eco-friendly vegetable production practices. Sloping
Agriculture Land Technology was adopted in more than 4 ha of land and was efficient in conserving soil
from erosive loss, mostly by terracing of the steep slopes and fixation of atmospheric nitrogen by legumes
used in hedgerow and inter-alley. Production of vegetable using local resources, eco-friendly techniques
and niche specific practices increased farm income, family health and ultimately the resilience of
community to cope with climate change impacts. The activities are conducted in initiation by farmers;
thus, their efficiency and technical bases need to be verified by researches in the view of the replication to
other impacted areas and correlation with relevant database from similar watershed areas.
