摘要:In last 15 years, school culture has been constituted into an important tool to understand the
relationship between school and culture. Without intending to inventory its different meanings, in
this essay, I would like discuss three issues I consider this tool can present to the academic inquiry
and the work of the teacher in classroom. They are: a) the debate on conservation and innovation
in education; b) the attention to the material culture as part of the school practices; and c) the
consideration of school community as a social actor. To do so, I associated theoretical quarrel,
photograph analysis and use of examples taken from the history of public school in São Paulo at
