摘要:The aim of the present work is the numerical analysis of the natural convection that develops during the solidification of a pure metal in a rectangular cavity whose vertical walls are subjected to different temperatures while the horizontal ones are thermally insulated. Two-dimensional conditions are assumed in the study using tin as a liquid material. The numerical solution of the continuity, linear momentum and energy equations is carried out in the context of the finite element method. For this problem, the influence of the temperature-dependent thermal properties on the flow as well as the effect of the convection over the evolution of the phase-change front is particularly analyzed. The obtained results are compared with experimental measurements and other numerical solutions available in the literature.
