摘要:Archaeologists studying Rock Art have
long been concerned with the forms of
representation of these cultural expressions.
This concern is related both to
the techniques used for recording rock
panels, and to the ways of communicating
the information produced with
their study. The present article aims at
discussing the ways Brazilian archaeologists
represent rock art, asking whether
it is possible to establish interpretive
relationships departing from such
representations. This work focuses on
concepts found in Brazilian Rock Art literature,
which were developed with
the aim of sharing information within
the academy. The information matter
is the object of inquiry, which is approached
using theoretical and methodological
tools provided by Information
Science, especially with the support of
semiotics and representation theory.
Analytical, synthetic and interpretive
concepts were categorized, stressing
problems of synonym and polyssemy.
The results indicate that the interpretation
of Rock Art is inherent to the
ways through which the information
about this expression is represented.
This work has its origin in the Doctoral
Dissertation produced within the Graduate
Program in Information Sciences
of UFRJ.
