2007 and First Results of 2008
In Austria, the impact of sulphur has been assessed since
1983 with the help of the Austrian Bioindicator Grid. The
annual sampling allows a precise evaluation of the temporal
and regional development of the impact of sulphur
based on legal standards. Despite the reduction of SO2
emissions in Austria and in the neighbouring countries,
the legal standard was still exceeded on 47 of the 733 plots
in 2007 (6.3 %). Approximately 64 % of these 47 polluted
plots were located in the federal provinces Burgenland,
Styria and in the Tyrol (www.bioindikatornetz.at). The
samples of 2008 are not completely analysed; first results
show an increase of plots with limit exceedance.
