摘要:The article discusses theoretical assumptions of the process of geographical themes perception as well as evaluates the adaptation of graphic material in selected geography and nature textbooks to student's perception abilities.
Perception is an initial stage of learning process. Perception results account for a basis of knowledge acquisition. Our perception abilities change in the course of man's natural development as a result of an external stimulation. School plays a major role in developing a child's perception skills. By being exposed to appropriate methods, techniques, didactic means and tasks, students develop a skill of useful controlled perception called observation. It is crucial for the development of man's cognitive processes.
Geography plays an essential role in creating observation skills, because observation is one of the basic research methods in that science. Very few geographical themes are available through direct perception; most themes can only be observed thanks to a variety of graphic devices. For a student, their textbook is a basic source of geographical information. Therefore a right selection of graphic material is essential for appropriate acquisition and understanding of geographical subject.
