摘要：Houston occasionally has been called the blob that ate southeast Texas. This image does not apply to the city of Houston (largely confined to Harris County) but to the spread of population into neighboring counties. Houston and the surrounding web of smaller cities, towns and suburbs have been slowly knit together by urbanization to form what is commonly referred to as a metropolitan area. Houston becomes a common identifying feature for those living in the area, even for those living in the remote suburbs.
