摘要:Systematic and taphonomic study of the Cirripedia of the Pirabas Formation (Eomiocene), Pará State, Brasil.
This work presents a study of the taphocoenosis of the balanomorph cirripedia of the Capanema ecofacies
from the Pirabas Formation, sampled in one outcrop located at the Capanema district, Pará state. The
taphocoenosis is polispecific, established by Balanus dentivarians (the first record as fossil in Brazil), B.
eburneus, B. improvisus, and Megabalanus tintinnabulum. The sedimentological, stratigraphical and
taphonomic features as well as the original colour in the majority of specimens suggest that fossiliferous
concentration was formed by storm waves that caused an catastrophic event.
