摘要：The present paper compares two religious experiences of incorporation
of sacred power: being inhabited by the Holy Spirit in Pentecostalism and spinning
with orixás and caboclos in the Candomblé. The comparison aims to identify the
modes of bodily engagement cultivated in the two religious contexts: the sensuous
forms of understanding the situation (and the others) that are involved in these
experiences of alterity. The goal is to approach possession/trance from the
standpoint of embodiment and to further articulate the concepts of embodiment
and space to refine the comparative analysis. The paper explores the potential of
this approach for understanding the distinctive styles of sociability characteristic
of Candomblé and Pentecostalism.
