摘要:In the first article which bears the same title of this one, it was become
clear that Hamza al-İsfahânî, in his book Târîh Sinî Mulûk al-Arz wa’l-
Anbiyâ, was based on the concept of the state (dawlat) when legitimating,
historically and legally, the Buwayhid Dynasty which formed immedi-
ately after the Dailamit expansion in the tenth century and characterized
the dynasty mentioned above as a Dailamit State (al-Dawlat al-
Daylamiyya). According to him this state (Dawlat) was representing the
transition of the state/dawlat from the Arabs to Iranians (the Ajams) in the
Islamic historical process. What is the real meaning of the describing of
the Buwayhid Dynasty in this way by the famous historian who is at same
time the contemporary of the early Buwayhid rulers? Or what did he
mean by the phrase of “the transition of the state from the Arabs to Irani-
ans/Acams)”. On the other hand, Hamza al-Isfahânî, put forward his ideas
about the Buwayhid Dynasty at the time they were taking different steps
to legitimize their dynasty politically as well as legally. In this case, the
question arises whether there was any relationship between the historian’s
ideas and Buwayhids’ attempts toward the legalization their dynasty
In the present article it is aimed to find an answer all the above-mentioned
questions related to the Hamza’s ideas about the Buwayhid Dynasty. By
doing this, the writer of these lines supposes that Hamza’s point of view
about Buwayhid Dynasty described in the previous article can be under-
stood more clearly. In brief, the subject of the article is the examination of
the background of Hamza al-İsfahânî’s ideas related to the Dynasty.
Firstly, the meaning of the concept of state (dawlat) in İslamic history and
al-Isfahânî’s attitude toward this concept will be discussed. Secondly, the
early Buwayhid rulers’ attempts to legitimize their sovereignty legally
and politically in Islamic History will be studied. Finally, by making a
comparison between two side’s attitudes mentioned above, it will be tried to reach an explanation or a disclosure pertaining to the background of
the al-İsfahânî’s ideas about the dynasty under consideration.
