  • 摘要:The 120th anniversary of the Department of Geography in Lvov University falls in 2003. Antoni Rehman (1840-1917) was the first departmental head, and also the first professor of geography in Lvov. In September 2003 a scientific conference will be organized by the Ivan Franko National University in Lvov to celebrate this anniversary. The present 57 volume of Annales UMCS (sect. B), dedicated to this anniversary, has been partially prepared in the cooperation with the Faculty of Geography of the Ivan Franko National University in Lvov. Geographers from Lublin and Lvov universities have cooperated in the fields of science and teaching for many years realising collective research projects often supported by the Polish State Committee for Scientific Research. There are lecturers' and students' exchanges. Our relationships with the Lvov geography are long lasting and emotionally deep for historical reasons. After the Second World War the Department of Geography in Lublin was formed by the following geographers from the pre-war Polish University of John Casimir in Lvov: Adam Malicki (organizer and first departmental head), Alfred Jahn, Aniela Chałubińska, Franciszek Uhorczak, Michał Janiszewski, Jan Ernst, Włodzimierz Zinkiewicz. In our journal K. Harasimiuk published earlier (Annales UMCS, vol. XLIV/XLV) a paper about the first period of academic geography existence in Lvov. In this article she also presented a character of A. Rehman as a scientist and stressed his role in the creation of geographic centre in Lvov. It is worth to mention that A. Rehman published a large, two-volume physico-geographical monograph entitled: The Lands of Old-time Poland... Part I. Carpathians Lvov 1895), Part II. Lowland Poland (Lvov 1904). In that work he made the first detailed physiographic regionalization of the described territories. In this volume of Annales UMCS we publish three papers, which are connected with the history of geography in Lvov before 1939. The following questions are discussed: the precursory contribution of E. Romer to climatic geomorphology (by J. Wojtanowicz), some geopolitical ideas of E. Romer and S. Rudnicki (by K. Harasimiuk), and the Romer's cartographic school through the analysis of cartographic achievements of M. Janiszewski (by J. Rodzoś). The others among 19 papers deal mainly with different problems of the Lublin region. Sev-eral articles concern social-economic matters. One paper refers to eolian relief in the basin of the Bug and Styr rivers in Ukraine, and the other one contains hydrological characteristics of the Bug river catchment, both its Polish and Ukrainian parts.
