摘要:Michał Janiszewski (1901-1984) was a cartographer connected with the Lvov geographical centre. He was a student, and later, co-worker of, E. Romer. However, he quite early began on his own creative path. The aim of this study is to answer the question concerning the relationship between Janiszewski's cartography and Romer's way of thinking. The comparative analysis performed shows that distinct similarities are evident concerning fundamental issues. This concurrence is most vivid in the following points:
1. The map presents a true, not distorted, picture of reality.
2. At the same time its contents are presented graphically, so that they are relatively easy to perceive.
3. The map exposes the most important characteristics of a given area - one might say its leading features, be this with respect to nature, or society or economy.
4. The maps are distinguished by high quality in both the correctness of their contents and the care shown in the graphics.
5. The conceptions of cartographic presentation of contents are given great consideration, such that they are not subject to the whims of fashion; they are consequently realised during many years of work.
Janiszewski managed, however, to go beyond the influence of Romer's genius and his strong personality. The foundations he accepted were realised according to methods of his own which often differed from those employed by the master. He used his own, original graphic designs. The Romer school gave him a strong base on which he has developed his own cartographic conception.
