摘要：This study aimed at detecting land cover/land use changes occurred in the area of “Sierra de la Culata” National Park during the period 1988-2003, as well as mapping the Park’s current land use/land cover. To this end, we used some of the spatial analysis and modelling functions available in the Geographic Information System software Idrisi. The output of this research provides useful information for the reformulation of a Land Use Management Plan and Regulations for use of the park. The results indicate that during the period studied, 93.2 % of the park’s territory remained stable, and 6.76% of its surface was affected by different changes. The 0.31 % of these changes were caused by the park’s inhabitants who deforested 0.28% of the park’s surface for conversion to permanent and annual crops as well as pastoral areas for cattle grazing.
