摘要：In recent years there has been a substantial growth in the potential of open source technologies. In 2005, the open source geospatial community formed a non-profit organisation called the Open Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo). Collectively, these events have prepared the way for an important period in the development of tools for geospatial applications. This article describes the development of a tool that arose from these events and was developed during the last four years at the University of Waterloo, Canada.
