摘要：The design and use of databases, together with the introduction of automation in heritage collections for all regular museum activities, has brought a number of challenges and changes in the attitude of those museum professionals who face them.
In connection with this trend, during the last ten years the registration and documentation of collections has additionally experienced a striking transformation and elementary changes for good performance. Although automated systems can be of great help in the management and control of our collections, if they are to be really effective then we should be able to process information in a systematic manner and unify our working and cataloguing criteria.
It is essential to understand that by setting up criteria applicable to the process of lexicon normalization, we will be capable of eliminating barriers in the fields of knowledge and dissemination of heritage collections under the custody of museums, thus allowing an efficient information exchange.
