摘要:Three traits of the intellectual personality of Thomas Aquinas ?a strong sense of tradition, great creativity and a keen awareness of reason抯 limits ?serve as the backdrop for considering his original contribution to Metaphysics. He identifies Aristotle抯 reduction of reality to act-potency, with the Platonic understanding of participation. He does so on the basis of the truth of creatio ex nihilo, which allows him to interprets the creaturehood of finite beings as a participation in being. Even though creation is a truth accessible to reason, historically speaking it has only taken root in Philosophy thanks to Judeo-Christian revelation.
