These practices encourage the development of skills such as environmental analysis, problemsolving and prospective thinking. This article presents the results of a research-intervention during which adult literacy students suggested measures for adapting to the impacts of agricultural floods. These adults proposed effective adaptation ideas thanks to the group’s skills and practices (knowledge of the land, an experiential method of problem solving, broad prospective thinking, an attitude of perseverance faced with complex situations…), and coaching that favoured the reinforcement of problem solving skills.
