  • 摘要:In 2000, 2003, and 2006, the achievement of Finnish students in the area of mathematics, science and reading literacy in PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) has got attention from all over the world, particularly from OECD countries that ranked below the average. Thus, on the basis of the author' own experiences in Finland and related literature, this paper aims to explain four forefront factors that appear to contribute to the Finnish student achievement, and then, to discuss what we as Turkey can benefit from the Finnish education system. Four main factors are as follows: (1) teacher education program, (2) traditional school life, (3) teaching profession as culture, and (4) in-service teacher education
