摘要:Socially conscious organizations are “gender carrying”
institutional structures. That is to say that gender relations are revealed
in these organizations. Cooperative principles and values allow the
cooperative organization to create more equitable gender relations
which are reflected in the surrounding municipality and the region.
The Valle de San José Coopvalle LTD Credit Union in Columbia is a case
in point. In this cooperative, the participation of women leaders is vis-
ible and essential to its development. Team work based on confidence,
led by a woman, encouraged the participation of women as develop-
ment agents, that is to say, as persons that promote positive change for
the organization. Coopvalle has contributed to improving the lives of
women members and leaders, providing the possibility of access to
credit and savings services, qualification and other activities and ser-
vices which help satisfy individual and family needs. Strategic interests
of the population have also been favored by the performance of the
cooperative, since its members and leaders have seen an improvement
of their position in society and in their families because of their partici-
pation in the organization.
