摘要:This work presents the methodology used to construct a
tool for evaluating public perceptions concerning credit unions which
could be put to use on an international level. The study adopted a three
step methodological process. The first step generated a list of 49 per-
ceptions of credit unions based on surveys made in Québec, Mexico
and Costa Rica. Later, a tool was devised comprised of 11 dimensions
which could be measured in 27 statements with the help of exploratory
factorial analysis. The instrument was then validated by conclusive fac-
torial analysis and it was demonstrated that a reduced version comprised
of only 11 statements could provide results very similar to the full
27 statement version. Telephone surveys made in Québec, Querétaro
and San José using the reduced version of the measurement instrument
indicate that perceptions of the population concerning credit unions
and their importance were very different between the three territories.
Results confirm the usefulness of this instrument developed for estab-
lishing an index of public attitudes towards credit unions.
