摘要：The bank card is more and more common worldwide. From its beginning, it suffered profound
transformations, that leaded to a modern product, alternative to cash money. Nowadays, the new
technologies opens the road for offering high quality and flexible financial services, more securely and at
lower costs. The article analyses the main trends in bank card markets in developed countries and
especially in the European Union and compares with the state of market in Romania, trying to highlight
the future trends, transformations and challenges.
