摘要:Fatigue deteriorates quality of life and productivity. Sleep disorders breathing (SDB) are a major cause of fatigue. This study describes SDB in 180 mine operators at northern Chile mining enterprise located between 1.600 and 1.900 masl. Workers were given biopsicosocial and general health questionnaires. 177 were evaluated with pulse oximetry (PO) while sleeping (at day or at night) at the mining camp. A polisomnography (PSG) on the camp was performed in those whit abnormal PO. PO was abnormal in 44.1% of the 177 workers. 61 out of the 78 workers underwent the PSG and 55 presented SDB. Only 4 PSG were normal confirming that PO is useful as screening tool. Narcolepsy was suspected in two workers and snoring was the cause of SDB in other two. The remaining workers presented different degrees of SDB. SDB prevalence is at least 30% in the study group.
