摘要:The objective of the study was to establish the physical weight handling capability of female workers and its relationship with Chilean regulations that regulate maximum acceptable weight lifting limits for persons - Law 20.001. With regard to methodology, it corresponds to a descriptive study in which the weight handling
capability was characterized in terms of aerobic capacity, intradiscal compression between lumbar vertebra 5 and sacral vertebra 1,
strength generation capability and perception of load capability in nine groups of female workers. With regard to results and conclusions
117 female workers were interviewed. Age of participants ranged from 23 to 59 years with an average of 38 years. The study of weight
handling capability of the nine workers groups evaluated indicates that from the point of view of epidemiological, biomechanical, physiological and psychophysical criteria grounded in the study, recommendation described in Law 20.001 and the associated Technical Guide – where a maximum limit of 20 kg is established for women - that recommended value exceeds the capabilities of the group studied.
Thus, under ideal or optimal weight handling conditions, maximum weight should not exceed 15 kg. On the other hand, weight-handling
capability of the 10th percentile of studied female workers did not present statistical differences from results obtained when applying the Spanish Technical Guide, (Real Decreto 487/1997).
