摘要:The existence of social capital represents the possibility of an endorsement rooted in social
processes significant to people when seeking the introduction of models such as participatory
democracy, because it includes the presence of articulated values and support of those involved in
supporting networks and mechanisms that could also support their full operation. This research
discusses the theoretical and conceptual foundations of the proposal of social capital with the aim
of making progress in identifying the role it could carry through participatory strategies in
guiding and achieving institutional change. For this purpose the most renowned authors in this
field are rewed: Putman, Coleman Kliksberg and Durston, among others, as well as proposals
from international organisms which have taken position on the matter and established its
distinctive features according to the different approaches. The most relevant conclusions are the
finding of divergent views, in spite of agreeing on the identification of some components such as
trust, association, cooperation and solidarity. In relation to the characteristics of individual social
capital and collective social capital and the undeniable impact that these differences have on the
level of acceptance of the cohesive role of social capital in strengthening participatory strategies,
a close relationship between their potential specificity and importance of their impact on
development is recognized. Moreover, it is proposed a qualitative inquiry into organizational
process of Lara state, Venezuela, and it is also reviewed a case in this jurisdiction, represented by
the experience of Cecosesola, where it was found the presence of trust in the processes
participatory self-organization that characterizes it.
