摘要:Satellite positioning education presents a number of challenges for the teacher in providing
effective student feedback and assessment. Assessing the student's ability to understand,
analyse and apply complex multidimensional spatio-temporal relationships and geospatial
data have been constrained by a two dimensional paper-based format. Consequently, the
paper-based system has focused on summative assessment rather than on a student’s
formative development. It has also limited the assessment of testing acquisition of knowledge
content rather than consideration of the student’s individual strengths and weaknesses in
addressing real world applications and problem solving. Final assessment results do not truly
reflect the diversity of student skill sets or clearly identify areas for individual improvement
around deeper conceptual understanding and technical application.
Recent T&L research undertaken by the satellite positioning and navigation (SPAN) Team at
RMIT University has attempted to overcome these constraints through the development and
testing of a new learning technology platform aligned to a real world problem solving
framework. The creation and testing of an online concept map, wiki and range of 3D/4D
animations was designed to help students understand complex multidimensional concepts
and relevant techniques in the application of satellite positioning data. Currently prototyping
of an assessment and feedback framework based on industry and student input to optimally
utilise the 3D/4D multimedia learning tool is in process.
It is anticipated that this framework would provide an important interface between
underlying knowledge, technology and problem-based learning. Engagement with different
levels of learners, including students and geospatial practitioners, and the future development
of the assessment and feedback system will be outlined.
