摘要：In a global world questions about how we live together in societies with people
from various cultures are the most important at all. Multiculturalism was not in
Renaissance intellectuals agenda but some of his most relevant thinkers wrote about
questions related whit cultures contact due to the encounter between Europe and the New
World. One of this renaissance writers, Michel de Montaigne, has been appealing to
different contemporary thinkers, but in a paradoxical way they give opposite
interpretations about Montaigne´s work. They say that Montaigne would have been a
relativist and am ethnocentric writer at the same time. In this article we defend the French
thinker from both charges and try to show how he could contribute to solve our problems
in global multicultural societies.
