摘要：Teaching patriotism is an important part of value and citizenship education in modern curricula. Beginning from the late nineteenth century, patriotic education has always been among the general aims of Turkish educational system, more specifically among the objectives of history and social studies education. The purpose of this study was to examine history and social studies teachers’ attitudes about patriotism and teaching patriotism, and the frequency of strategies and methods they use in teaching patriotism. Our findings indicate that history and social studies teachers are alike in their attitudes of patriotism and patriotic education. However, we found statistically significant correlations between attitudes about patriotism and teaching strategies and methods. The study displayed that, compared to history teachers, social studies teachers are likely to use multiple teaching strategies and methods such as role model, cooperative learning strategies, class discussions, visual materials, role plays, games, and simulations.
