摘要:ABSTRACT. The purpose of this study is to show how to write and score open-ended questions based on learning
objectives in elementary school curriculum focusing specifically on a “science and technology course” unit called “Let’s
learn about substance?” offered in the 4th grade. 79 students from a private elementary school in Ankara participated in the
study. The objectives in the unit were analyzed in terms of “content and cognitive level”, and in the process of unit analysis,
the taxonomy suggested by Haladyna (1997) was used. In the study, sample open-ended questions were devised and applied
for the three cognitive levels (comprehension, problem-solving/academic skills, and critical thinking), and the participants’
answers were evaluated according to the scoring rubric that was prepared. The results of the study show that considering
learning objectives in two distinctive parts, namely content and cognitive level, facilitated the assessment of the skills that
the learning objective aims to develop
