摘要:Germain Grisez argues that contraceptive measures are acts against life. Thus it is appropriate to analyze the nature of the dignity and the value of human life, and of procreation in so far as it is the transmission and beginning of life itself. Grisez offers, throughout his writings, a brilliant philosophical and theological synthesis about the intrinsic and personal value of human life and of procreation, based on the idea that they participate in the same dignity of the human person. Similarly, he insists on their sacred character, due to the very special relation of the person with God. These reflections seem a profound commentary “ante litteram” of the encyclical Evangelium vitae. At the same time, our author unmasks the anthropological dualism implicit in all those ways of conceiving life and procreation as instrumental and biological goods, defending the corporeal-spiritual unity of the human being. Again, Grisez is found to be ahead of the intuitions articulated later by the Pontifical Magisterium, for example in “Familiaris consortio” and in “Evangelium vitae”. His reflections about the dignity of procreation in the Encyclical Humanae vitae also turn out to be particularly interesting. These themes are characteristic of Grisez throughout his scientific writings. No doubt they are important and current. It is not always that moral theology frees itself from the errors that have been here critically analyzed, above all in all those questions–such as contraceptive measures–which involve the human body and its biological processes. This is a first study in which the dignity and value of life and of procreation are articulated from a philosophical perspective. In a future article the same theme will be presented from a theological perspective.
