摘要:This essay intends to participate in the recently renewed debate on the possibility of inspiration of non-Hebrew biblical books and focuses on patristic testimonies regarding the authoring and inspiration of the Greek translation of the Old Testament, the so-called Septuagint. After offering a classification of the testimonies, six arguments – derived from the proposed patristic evidence – are expounded that favour the inspired character of the Septuagint from a patristic point of view. The present study employs a historic method, beginning with the first historic evidence given by the pseudoepigraphic Letter of Aristeas. It is limited to the analysis of patristic authors of the 2nd through 4th centuries, excluding the discussion between Jerome and Augustine regarding the veritas hebraica.
