摘要:This article examines the image of the “Divided Line” in Plato’s Republic, relating it closely with the image of the Sun and with the allegory of the Cave. As a result there are three binomial terms, which can be useful in interpreting the passage: clarity-obscurity, cause-effect, time-eternity. In this context the greater part of the sciences (and not only mathematics) is to be included in the section known as dianoia within the intelligible segment of the “Divided Line”.
