摘要:The often vitriolic public debate about the role of the credit
rating agencies in the generation of the subprime crisis has
revolved around an idea which now seems deeply entrenched
in popular, financial market and academic understandings
of the agencies and their incentives. The core
element of this thinking is that how the agencies are remunerated
generates a significant problem for the quality
of the ratings they produce. The issue identified is a conflict
of interest between the central purpose of ratings and
the remuneration model that funds the ratings of the major,
global agencies.
