A medical education costs a lot of money. This is hardly news to those of us who have paid for medical school. Some physicians work for years to repay student loans. Others serve in the military or the National Health Service Corps to offset educational costs. Most of us don’t think much about what we bought with all that money or about what we might have bought instead. We were pursuing a dream when we went to medical school. We felt blessed to be given the opportunity to enter this profession, and we began our careers with a sense of purpose to care for people in need.
