In the context of the correspondence between artists, the letters sent by Mario de Andrade to Portinari are analysed considering the friendship that bonded the writer to the painter. But also, in a much deeper level, it is considered the narcissism’s aspects that the letters make evident, from the point of view of the relationship with one another, as well as the vital problem lived by the poet during the act of writing. The limitations of literature’s psychoanalytical interpretation are considered.
