摘要:This article refers to a study that aimed to investigate the social representations of kindergarten teachers on education for sexuality in pre-school, specifically in the following dimensions: information sources, information, beliefs, attitudes and behavioral intentions.
Methodologically, this was a descriptive and quantitative study in which a questionnaire was administered to a representative sample of 86 kindergarten teachers in the municipality of Santarém, belonging to public, private and cooperative schools.
More significant results indicate the respondents’ assertion that there is little (in) formation on the subject in pre-school. Lack of training is perceived by the educators and leads them to feel insecure to initiate activities and projects in this area. They consider that some manuals provide theoretical support but unclear information on the subject. Also the opportunities for education professionals to specialize on matters related to education for sexuality are scarce. They claim, furthermore, that children who attend kindergarten, usually ask many questions about sexuality, however, the answers given are not always adequate due to the insecurity derived, in their view, from the poor training of kindergarten teachers in this specific area. Furthermore, the surveyed educators regard education for sexuality as important as other areas and argue that this should begin to be addressed from pre-school (3-6 years). However, we observed that this is one of the less common themes in the curriculum projects surveyed. the family was also perceived as an essential element in education for sexuality, emerging as first choice of respondents when asked about who is to address this issue with children
