摘要:New technologies and communication among young people. Use and discourse. Based on the results of a questionnaire administered to Spanish students enrolled in secondary education centres in the province of Almeria (Spain), the article reflects on how much our young people know about social communication tools, the extent of their participation and the subjects they explore; and on their discourse in regard to the existence or not of a generation shock between them and their parents and teachers materialised in the form of a widening technological gap. The first questionnaire was administered to male and female students of a public institution located in the west of Almeria where there is a very high percentage of immigrant students from other countries or children of immigrant parents that settled in Almeria some years ago. The second was completed by students in a partly private educational institution in the Almerian capital, where the profile of the student body is very different, in that boys and girls with an immigrant background are merely present, not predominant. We will compare the responses of the two groups of youngsters in regard to the use they make of new technologies to communicate and also their discourse in regard to the new information and communication technologies (e-mail, short message systems, mobile phones, chats, social networking via internet, video consoles and on-line video games, audio-visual platforms and forums).
