摘要:Providing mental health services for rural communities continues to be problematic. It is estimated that a quarter of the American population lives in rural areas. A variety of sources attest that mental health issues among urban populations are significantly higher than the average urban populations. This article addresses the critical need for itinerant counseling services for rural communities. The first part of the article is a review of the literature and scholarly evaluation of the subject of mental health services in the rural communities. The second part is a personal narrative of the author’s experience in establishing and maintaining a successful itinerant counseling practice. This narrative includes an examination of the potential issues associated with such a practice
