摘要:A small zoomorphic bronze statuette found during the archaeological campaign
of 2005 at the Roman theatre of Lisbon by one of the authors of this study. The present
paper aims to make known this find, which, at present, is unique in the city of Lisbon, allowing
stylistic and chronological relevant comparisons. The archaeological context in which
this artefact was found is also discussed, analysing its relationship with the Roman monument
and the occupation of this part of the city of Olisipo before the theatre was built. The
archaeological intervention of 2005, carried out in the area that lies to the south of this
monument, allowed the discovery of the grandiose structure of the postcaenium. Only the
construction of this huge wall allowed the establishment of the theatre in this steep slope.
This important engineering work dictated the urban layout of Olisipo. The artefact was found
immediately to the south of this structure, although at present it is not possible to establish
a direct connection between the stratigraphic context in which this bronze statuette was
found and the construction of the theatre
