As a part of our study on the forriiation and development of the behavior patterns of group leaders, we have researched regarding such problems as follows : 1) Desires and demands of pupils for the school and their teachers. 2) Expectancies, demands and opinions of pupils' parents regarding the school and the teachers. 3) Cognitions and adjustments of teachers to desires and demands of their pupils and pupils' parents. In 1959, we did preliminary research for five days. The subjects were 79 teachers in four mountain villages of Nagano Prefecture, and some of them who have experience of over 7 years have been interviewed intensively. In 1960, we have again researched in two mountain villages of the same prefecture. The subjects are 40 teachers in two primary and two secondary schools. These data have been obtained by means of questionnaire, interview and observation. Thus, we intend to describe several types of the behavior patterns of public teachers from the data mentioned above, and to find conditions under which the behavior patterns of the teachers are sustained or changed.
