摘要:The platforms for hydrocarbon extraction constructed far from the coast represent places for roosting and feeding for
some seabirds, which are attracted by an unusual offer of food and resting sites that would not be available in their
absence. With the purpose of identifying the marine species of birds in two gas extraction platforms in the colombian
Caribbean sea, as well as how they make use of those structures and the potential risks derived from that use, we made
observations for five days between October and November of 2004. Six species of birds were recorded, of which were
notable in their abundance the Brown Booby (Sula leucogaster), with about 250 individuals, and the Royal Tern
(Thalasseus maximus) with 10 individuals. Most of the birds used these structures primarily as resting and roosting sites,
but also as foraging grounds. Risks or mortality caused by the activities of gas extraction were not identified. Future
observations at Chuchupa should be expanded on frequency and intensity to achieve a better inventory.
