We normally assume that being a temporary worker has a negative effect although there are workers who prefer this type of contract (Barringer & Milkovich, 2002). These same authors point out the heterogeneous nature of the profile of the workers, particularly those on temporary contracts. The object of this study is to find out how important the type of work contract is in the study of the psychological contract. A sample of 690 workers from the province of Alicante was compiled for this purpose. The findings show that workers value other issues besides having a permanent contract with their organisation, like their appreciation of the work done and the way their work contract matches their own needs.
