Social and family trends have been going through huge changes over the last decades. Of major importance, in our view, is the large-scale entry of women into the job market. According to several analysts, it can be assumed that women are entering the workforce and taking up paid employment on a huge scale because the consumer ideal fomented in Western countries has led to the creation of new consumer needs. These require extra income if they are to be met, and that means paid work for women. In keeping with this idea, the aim here is to find out whether the progressive entry of women into the job market is a discriminating factor when it comes to determining the level and type of equipment to be found in Spanish homes.
