摘要：Until the invention of reliable mechanical refrigeration, Sydney's only experience of ice was the American ice imported by ship in 1839-40, and 1853-56. Insulated with sawdust, and transported across the world by ship, the natural ice from the lakes of Massachusetts caused a sensation in Sydney summers.
