摘要:Medical images have become essential information resources in diagnostic processes. Important sources of medical images are the conventional endoscope and the wireless capsule endoscope. In this paper, a contourlet-based compression scheme for medical endoscope images is proposed. The proposed algorithm is compared with two well known transform coding algorithms; the Discrete Cosine Transforms (DCT) and the Wavelet Transform (WT). Experiments are conducted on 10 traditional endoscope images and 6 capsule endoscope images using MTALAB7. The results indicate that the contourlet transform exhibits higher compression ratio than both the cosine transform and the wavelet transform for the same medical image quality.
