摘要:Despite the hot and humid
Arkansas August evening,
the open car windows kept
the air moving briskly enough to
keep us almost comfortable on
our way to a party at a college
professor¡¯s house. As we turned
into the remote rural driveway,
something suddenly appeared in
front of us. A large dark head and
white chest loomed above the
fender. Startled, Tom shouted and
threw the ¡®63 Chevy into reverse.
And I laughed, having recognized
the specter as Thunder, the party
hosts¡¯ harlequin Great Dane¡ªa
wonderful, handsome giant of a
dog. Stifling my guffaws, I calmed
Tom down and persuaded him to
stop careening backwards
down the road.
